1.1 Research on the range and types of creative and media activity in the Southbank.


The South Bank Arts Scene










In this unit (Unit 1.1) you will find produced research on the range and types of creative and media activity within the South Bank and South Bank Centre. The South Bank Centre has a range of educational and entertainment kind of creative and media devices fit for schools or even just a day out with the family.

Tate Modern

Tate Modern is an international modern and contemporary art museum that endures artists such as Gauguin. Other than Tate Modern, there is also Tate Britain, Tate Liverpool and Tate St Ives. People would normally come here to have a look at pieces of old, vintage and also modern artwork. The are also a variety of presentations that are held there by artists to attract audiences.

- Inside Today’s Museum (30.09.2010 > 16.12.2010) where you canget a rare chance to go behind the scenes at Tate Modern and find out what they do and how they do it.




- Paper Myths: Constructing ‘The Other’ (18.10.2010 > 22.11.2010) where you can create a sketchbook of ‘paper myths’ by exploring the myths we construct around ourselves.





The Hayward Gallery

The Hayward Gallery is an art museum that has a long history of presenting work by the worlds most adventurous and innovative artists yet always organising talks and exhibitions on a regular basis. Like the Tate Modern, people also visit the Hayward Gallery to look at exhibitions, artwork and presentations.

The Globe

The Globe is a unique international resource dedicated to the exploration and education of Shakespeare’s work and the playhouse for which he wrote. Inside this traditional outside theatre are actors and actresses who perform speaking in the language of Shakespeare as if it was infront of a Shakespearean audience.

The IMAX cinema cannot be compared to other cinemas because it is in a league of its own. IMAX stands for Image Maximum due to its large 3D screen. The only disadvantage of the IMAX cinema is that at a normal cinema there are at least 13 films out that are on offer to watch whereas at an IMAX cinema, there are only 5 or 6.

- A Day in the Life: Four Portraits of Post-War Britain by John Krish + G&A with John Krish (08.11.2010) where they’re welcoming one of their finest documentary directors and present new prints of four of his short films.

Royal Festival Hall

The Royal Festival Hall is one of the world’s leading performance venues where big music artists and also live bands play infront of a wide audience. Its almost like a concert.
